Larry,

If I had known how much I would learn from your Final Cut Pro 5 book and included videos, I would undoubtedly have paid $1,500 rather than the $45 Barnes and Noble collected.

Larry's FCP5 Book

You are a masterful teacher and I say that having been a faculty member and speaker all my life.

Even though I should be outsourcing such things, I find that taking on the creative graphics processes adds to my content as well. Once I do version 1 of something, then I typically hand it off...but I need to know how it works and what's possible.

You enabled me to literally buy a Mac and produce a finished speakers demo DVD in a matter of weeks. Now we're developing entire courses around my book and workshops.

Thanks again and keep up the good work.

-- D.S.

Wonderful book. Out of the five books I purchased, this is the only one that a non-technical wizard understood and learned from w/o a headache. After struggling with the dense tome that I was issued via a class this book made it all make sense so I could get to editing with some understanding of what I was doing. Thank you Mr. Jordan, your book is the best. I keep it on my desk for when I want a question answered in your standard clear, concise, and informative style. Your book saved me from fear of technical things failure.

-- D.M.

Final Cut Pro 5/Lynda.com Books...FINALLY...someone that knows this software, and KNOWS how to write as well..

Thank you, Thank you. If only I'd had this 4 years ago...

-- T.A.

I've really enjoyed the book... I find myself going... "Ahhh...." many times. I've found it helpful and interesting and the book will really be useful to a variety of user levels. I have talked with Aleta (HEC) about the book and compared it to the book we used for the DVCreators FCP class. Your's seems to be much more useful. The other book takes you through exercises but doesn't really teach you about the program along the way. Your personality definitely comes through in your writing as well which makes the reading a little less heavy and technical. I think some of the material really depends on background knowledge of the user. If you aren't familiar with ALL the terms, sometimes you may have to go through the text and illustrations a couple of times to fully understand. But...that's what we have minds for right?

So, I've enjoyed the book thus far and am looking forward to the rest.

Hands-on Training for Final Cut Pro HD is a superlative "Must Read" for FCP users of all levels. I am Apple Certified in FCP 4.0 and have an insatiable appetite for new books on the subject. Larry Jordan's book is by far, one of the very, very best on the market. There are many good FCP books written by talented film editors and fine authors. Larry is both, to be sure. But, he is also one of the most gifted teachers on the subject as well. This may be what makes his book stand so far apart. The way the material is presented draws on his many years of practical editing experience and is personalized by his unique way of bringing the subject matter to his students. He presents you with easy to follow QuickTime movies which prep you for the full-bodied step-by-step versions set forth in the 500+ page book. The student lesson media which is included on the accompanying DVD is robust and exactly fits the needs of the tutorials. I might add that even if one skipped the lessons (which would be absurd!) what one would gain from the many tips and sidebars would be well worth the price of the book. This book boasts that it will take you from organization through editing to professional output using Final Cut Pro HD. And it does! The only thing that might top having this book would be to have Larry teach you the subject in person and, as I understand it, that too is possible.

Larry Jordan has recently published Final Cut Pro, Hands on Training. Because Larry Jordan publishes a monthly (free!) newsletter about FCP, he is very much aware the problems a user might encounter (whether novice or more experienced) and that shows in his book.

His book is without doubt the only book one needs to learn FCP or to enhance one's ability to use all the many facets of FCP HD. The book explores in detail all the nooks and crannies and it contains a veritable cornucopia of problems a user might encounter and he gives solutions.

The book is written in a very readable style, at times funny, like a good teacher.

In addition the DVD with the book contains 11 Quick time movies in which Larry Jordan illustrates some of the contents of the book chapters, next best thing to have Larry Jordan as a private teacher.

This is the only book one needs to become a very efficient and knowledgeable user of FCP HD.

My only complaint is why Larry Jordan did not publish this book earlier, before I bought all the books that claim to teach FCP. They will now gather dust on my bookshelf.

I bought your book at the LAFCUP meeting this past week and I like, I like! It has answered many of my questions regarding FCP HD and editing in general, but you know it is very enjoyable to read.

The layout of the book is really good, I'm glad it has color.

I have been following the book word for word, page by page. Even if I knew something I did it anyway. Not to my surprise, I have learned a great deal by taking the time to do this. If I would not have I would have missed a great deal. The process of reading and doing in the book and then seeing the video is just great. I like your writing style and the pictures. The video's really support the book well. It is like attending class. I enjoy the just plan talk and the humor. Humor is good when you are trying to really learn something. It puts things in perspective.

One of the strongest points of the book is that once you go through reading and doing something you tell the reader when you use that feature or principle and how often. This is just great. I can honestly say that you have taught me some great stuff on how to edit. It is just what I wanted. I have been doing some things the hard way. My mind has been running free thinking of all sorts of things I could do better.

I have to work in time for study between work and family but I am getting there. I just wanted to say thanks and I will update date you further when I have covered several more chapters.

-- R.R.

I just wanted to say that I received your book and dove into it straight away. Right off the bat I reviewed the QT movies. I Immediately I picked up new shortcuts and more importantly how to use the vectorscope and waveform monitors to color correct my footage. Wow what a big difference this had made to my movies. I just wanted to say thank you for putting together such a great book. I have been using FCP for 18 months now as a hobbyist turning pro. I have found many similarities in my workflow with those which you describe. I still have a lot to learn and your book will help in this respect.

Best Regards,

I.E.

I just wanted to drop you a line to thank you for your excellent book. I have a whole stack of FCP books, and yours together with the Apple books are hands downs the best! I find yours to be especially helpful after taking your FCP class - it's like having a great set of class notes that remind me of all of the great stuff I had forgotten!

Thanks,

-- G.G.

Thank you so much for your caring to check in on me! I am faithfully studying your book and DVD every day. I am now going into chapter 5. It is absolutely THE book for me. Everything you teach is exactly what I need to know, and phrased so well, I can actually understand it! I don't know what I'd do without it.

-- J.G.

Larry - I'm a self taught FCP devotee with a considerable investment in various after market Final Cut Pro books but yours is the best I've ever read. Though I'm familiar with much of the material you've presented, you revealed many valuable tips and "secrets" and, more importantly, clarified a number of points with real-world examples and logic.

Thanks, again, for a terrific, crystal clear FCP aide.

-- D.S.

Got your book yesterday. It's awesome! I teach FCP in high school and am working to get classroom copies. Thanks for a great resource.

-- P.R.

Larry, bought the book and it's great! The best book on FCP I've ever used.

Thanks again.
-- B.M.

I love your book. Just started to work through it. I've been on FCP for about a year pretty much full time so I know my way around a bit but am picking up all sorts of stuff. FCP is the most amazing program and your book brings it to life even more.

So, thanks. I'm a big fan of your site and your newsletter. The big subject for me at the moment is colour correction.

-- C.E.

I just bought your FCP HD HOT book, and am just about to start with the first lesson.... I knew there had to be a way to get up to speed without having to plow through the five manuals. I had read about your book online, and picked it up at Indigo Books in Kingston, Ontario.

Just learning how to set up the system and even how to hide the dock proved to me that this was the perfect purchase. You know the old saying, "I'm from Kansas - show me". I know this book will pay for itself in productivity.

-- G.F.

I'm just about done with your very well written FCP HD HOT book. I am new to FCP (but not new to NLEs) and have found your book informative, insightful, and yes, even funny ... at times. Just kidding.

Thanks,
-- E.J.

I just finished your book Final Cut Pro HOT, and wanted to let you know how helpful this book was in getting me up and running on FCP. This book is very well laid out and easy to understand. The colorful illustrations are the best!

Thanks
-- M.P.

I recently wrote to tell you how much I enjoyed, and have profitted from, Larry Jordan's training. Tonight I went out and bought his (your) book and I can see it's got the details that perfectly compliment the DVD/on line training. He's great and this is the best product! My compliments to you and Larry.

-- R.L.

I just finished the Weynand FCP 5 book and was looking to supplement it. I've been receiving your newsletter for some time, came across your book, and on a lark, purchased it. I was afraid that it would be repetitive to what I'd already learned, but I'm finding it really fleshes out the materials in the Weynand book. I especially appreciate the real world tips that you include and the basic background information you provide (such as explaining the math behind audio and what the differences in kHz and bit rates are all about). I plan on going through the tutorials over the next several weeks.
